DescriptionTake a day trip from St. Petersburg to Veliky Novgorod, the first capital of Russia in the 9th century. After enjoying the approximately 3-hour drive or train journey from St Petersburg (depending on the option you select), you'll meet your guide and set out to explore the city. You'll begin with a walking tour of the of Novgorod Detinets, the Novgorod Kremlin, and a visit St. Sophia's Cathedral, which was built in the 11th century. Next, you'll visit the Vitoslavlitsy Open-air Museum of Wooden Architecture with more than 20 original wooden buildings dating from the 16th through 19th century. Churches, chapels, and residential houses collected from around the Novgorod region were moved to this site in the 1960s and provide an in-depth look at the traditional architecture of the region. Finally you'll visit Yuriev Monastery and learn about it's nearly 1000 year history. At the end of your sightseeing, you'll have the opportunity to purchase dinner at ZavodBar, an excellent local restaurant, before making the return trip to St. Petersburg either by car or train, depending on the option selected.
