Walking Tours

One of the best ways to soak up the sights and sounds of a city like St Petersburg is by walking through the streets, canals and parks. If you have the luxury of time and the weather is pleasant, it's fun to do this with only a vague notion of where you're heading, letting whatever takes your fancy lead you wherever you care to go. However most of us are time-pressured, keen to see as much as possible in a short period of time, and have particular interests. So what better way than to take a guided walking tour, with either a geographic or thematic focus.

There are several walking tour companies operating in St Petersburg with a range of different tours in a number of languages. If you have particular interests or requirements, these can usually be accommodated too with some advanced notice.

If you prefer to go at your own pace, there are several GPS guides available to download to your smartphone which use your GPS location to indicate sights of interest and allow you to take things at your own pace. We've attached links to two we have used which are comprehensive and have a range of different tours available. We also hope to develop some of our own walking tours for the site soon, so do let us know if you have any particular ideas or interests which could form the basis for these.

Meantime pack a pair of sturdy but comfortable shoes, a portable umbrella, and a map, and get to know the city outside the guided tour bubble. You won't regret it!
