The E.S. Demmeni St Petersburg Marionette Theater - to give it it's full name - was Russia's first professional theater of this kind, established in 1918 by a group of local artists, and the first performance was in 1919, a Pushkin fable. The current theater has been housed in this building on Nevskiy prospekt since the 1930s, and also houses a museum where you can find some of the more than a thousand puppets in the theater's collection, many dating back to the earliest days of the theater. Utterly charming.
